Stadium facelift at Carrow Road
Geveko Markings was recently approached by Norwich City Football Club who were looking to improve the look of their newly named Joma Community Stand at Carrow Road Stadium with colourful and safety-enhancing markings.
Joma is a global sportswear company who have partnered with Norwich City Football Club (NCFC) to sponsor their Community Stand. The brief for this project was to brand the steps of the community stand with Joma’s corporate logo and colours, using suitable materials that were decorative, durable, and most importantly had an excellent slip resistance value (SRV) for added spectator safety. Ensuring the safe ingress and egress of patrons to a stadium or public arena is one of the primary concerns for a venue and safety managers, especially when slips, trips and falls account for many reported incidents.
Geveko Markings received several concept images from the customer with a view for them to be replicated and after some discussion the choice of materials and a layout was agreed. The decision was made to use a base material in yellow and to then have the Joma logo and step edge in green.
For the steps at NCFC, the materials used for the yellow base was PlastiRoute™ Rollplast, a two-component liquid that is extremely durable and achieves a high slip resistance making it ideal for use in high pedestrian traffic areas. PlastiRoute Rollplast is applied using a roller and will cover any small defects in the steps giving the steps a clean and refreshed appearance. The bespoke Joma logo and step edge identification was achieved by using our colourful and simple to apply preformed thermoplastic material, DecoMark™, which is heat-applied to a surface by way of a standard gas torch. As well as the steps, designated areas for wheelchairs were also created using the same colour scheme, though in reverse, with green PlastiRoute™ Rollplast being used for the base and the seat numbers and disabled icons in yellow preformed thermoplastic.
All parties are very pleased with the striking finish to the project and there is no doubt which part of the stadium the lucky spectators will be watching Premier League football from in the coming season.
‘We are delighted with the final result of our newly updated Joma Community Stand, with the help of Geveko Markings, we were able to achieve exactly what we were looking for, a material that enhanced visitor safety and looked amazing, says Stadium Manager, Greg Pilinger and continues: ‘We have worked with Geveko Markings on several projects in the past and have always found the quality of their materials and service to be exceptional. We look forward to working with them again in the future.’
