DecoMark™ on the bicycle route RijnWaalpad in the Netherlands

Velo-city 2017 in Arnhem-Nijmegen in Netherland is a global cycling summit with delegates from over 80 countries.

As a part of it, the design bureau “Brandes en Meurs” was working on some light-installation at the tunnel crossing RijnWaalpad/A15 highway, which is on the bicycle route between Arnhem and Nijmegen. The total length is 15,8 km. Our part was to install 6 logos which look like bicycle chains, which are made out of DecoMark^® in front of the tunnel.

The other part of the art installation is, that these logos are repeating before and in the tunnel as some lights. The cyclist can choose with some special app "Bicycle Buddy" the colors of the lights, before he/she is entering the tunnel. As more often she/he is driving through it there will be more colors available. During the cyclist is driving through the tunnel she/he can see this special lights at the wall.

At night, the lights illuminate the whole bicycle route between between Arnhem and Nijmegen. It is expected that around 2000 cyclist will use the route and see the logo daily. The intention is to have these markings at more places. At least 25 next are promised.
